New festivals are sort of like a blind date. They stir-up some uneasy feelings, but that’s probably because we have unreasonably high expectations. Butterflies aside, over 70,000 goers packed their weekends into a motor vehicle then pointed its headlights in the direction of Burl’s Creek, Ontario for the first ever WAYHOME Music Festival.
We kicked off the day with the lovely Lowell, who had the Toronto crowd out in numbers for the first set of the day, then continued the afternoon dance party with West Coast electro-dancers Bear Mountain. Courtney Barnett totally rocked, rolling about stage while using a Molson Canadian as a guitar pic. Alt J had the WayBright stage at it’s maximum capacity, but Neil Young’s epic three hour set drew everyone away near the end. After a long day in the sun, we decided to cap things off with an all out field dance party with KAYTRANADA and Toronto legends Dwayne Gretzky.
It was smooth sailing on Day 1, which was way more than we expected. Beautiful weather and even more beautiful people had the entire grounds filled with nothing but good vibes.
Check out our snaps below and stay tuned for our coverage of day two!
