The attention to detail was clear in every perfectly jacquard stitch at the Comrags Fall Winter 2015 presentation which kicked off Toronto Fashion Week outside the tents. Established in 1983 by creative duo Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish as a modest little design store, their collection is now an essential part of the Canadian fashion landscape.
Cornish described the inspiration for the Fall Winter line simply as “lives lived,” with a strong yet slightly dishevelled look and feel. The venue lent itself well to the theme, held inside Smash Salvage, an exposed brick warehouse far away from the frenzied fashion week centre. The collection was muted, earthy dark tones with key pieces like the linear Diego Coat and Metallic Tackle Vest and crepe Coby pant.
As each model walked down the hardwood floor runaway, you could feel the rustle and bunched up texture of the cotton dresses, pantsuits and vests. Geometric prints and open back pantsuits were exhibited throughout the collection, and layered tunics over wide grey and black pants.
