Melbourne is filled the brim with all kinds of super cool trend setting designers and artisans, many of which we find ourselves obsessing over on the regular. Kuwaii is one of those brands. It was probably their footwear which first drew us in because of their original wedged out designs in fun unassuming colours and wearable interesting styles.
According to their company profile, Kuwaii is “at once both strikingly simple and intricately precise,” and upon entering their Brunswick showroom perfectly curated by colour, we could tell we were in love. Founded by Melbournite Kristy Barber in 2008 the brand quickly gained a cult following and is available at a number of shops locally. Barber has put in time at 3.1 Phillip Lim in New York, as well as with Australian brands Arnsdorf and Lover, where she honed her skills as a designer before starting the label.
On view in the Brunswick shop was the autumn winter Palladian collection of both shoes and clothes. The garments are composed of deliciously exquisite fabrics finished to perfection with French seaming, while their shoes are made in a local factory which also produces orthopaedics, making their super cool shoes ultra comfortable. Both the clothing and the shoes are not trendy by any means, but rather timeless and elegant no matter the day you pull them out of your wardrobe.
The shop also carries Kuwaii’s collaboration with Melbourne based nail polish brand Kestor Black, a number of accessories, and sunglasses.
We wanted to share our trip to the Brunswick shop with you through some photos below. Weather you live in Melbourne or are just visiting we highly recommend paying this shop a visit.
