Just steps from Brunswick’s trendy shopping block and adjacent some rather amazing graffiti is Young Bloods Diner in Melbourne. Though it’s not a new spot, it is a really lovely one, with seating inside and outside on ground level both inside and as well as a covered white rooftop.
The food is hardly what you’d find at any deli we’ve been to, which is perhaps yet another example of Melbourne taking a concept and elevating to whole other level of excellence. Divided into a few sections including brunch, all day breakfast, fresh juices, kids, and dessert, the menu hits nearly every appetite level.
We all started off with a round of Fitzroy Lemonades, a couple of the super delicious fresh juices, and flat whites made with their in house blend. Around the table we sampled their slow roasted lamb shoulder served with tomatoes, eggplant, basil, and peanuts, their duck and beans, their toasted brioche served beautifully with field mushrooms, soft eggs, and pecorino, and their beef short ribs, which was layered with potato gratin and a fried egg. Everything we ate by far exceeded our expectations for brunch, lunch, and breakfast, and we were truly blown away by the simple freshness off that dishes, as well as the selection.
We highly recommend you visit Young Blood’s if you haven’t already. Take a flip through some photos of the space and our meal earlier this month.
