Earlier this summer, we caught up with Glasgow electro synth poppers CHVRCHES before their show in Toronto at The Hoxton across the street at the Drake General Store which has since been relocated. In and amongst the apparel, lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry, guitarist and bassist Iain Cook, and synth/vocalist Martin Doherty discuss their rise to fame, posting their first single on Neon Gold, and how they didn’t let the hype influence or change their music.
Lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry also defends her youthful image as she’s often perceived to be “about fourteen” and we learn in addition to her musical skills, that she’s also a lawyer with a masters of Journalism (and is actually 25).
After dropping their Recover and Gun EP’s earlier this year, they’re about to release their debut full-length album The Bones Of What You Believe, out next month via Glassnote on September 23/24th and will be coming back through Toronto on September 15th where they’ll play the Danforth Music Hall.
