A few weeks back we had the pleasure to pursue the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection for the spring summer season at their showroom in New York. Delighted by the runway show earlier in the fall, the collection just oozed cool girl ease with all the meticulous detail we all know and love from season to season from Lim. Grounded in seemingly simple tailoring, the collection was an airy look at layering and the elegance that comes the cooler, often overlooked details.
The collection combined textures like quilting, waffle embroidery, gauzy mesh, and soft brocade, boarded with oversized piping and wrap detailing. The colour palette was at once edgy and delicate with punches of dark teal and black, including a graphic pattern, with soft pink pastels, touches of gold, sunny yellow, and persimmonny pink.
Of course no collection would be complete without a generous heap of must have accessories and Lim makes some of the finest out there today. Gazing at everything from eyewear to coveted bags and small leather goods to some of the most incredibly dreamy shoes, we pretty much left thinking we’d like to own the entire range.
For men, the collection was adventurous seen through ginghams, mixed plaids printed on seersucker, monochromatic knits, and daring kimono style jackets, while the tailoring stayed boxy and minimal. On the more conservative side of the collection was a number of zip and snap up jackets that gave an on trend athletic nod. Indeed must have outerwear was punctuated throughout the collection in army green, silk stripes, and somehow masculine silk chiffon with cotton underlay. Punches of deep turquoise and rich cream kept the very blue hued collection grounded.
