Designer Toys

When I was a child I loved my toys. I would spend hours upon hours playing with them. I had all the quintessential 80’s boys toys; Transformers, G.I. Joes, He-Man, Go-Bots, and Thundercats. Each and everyone of them was great. They were all my favourites. Sometimes all of them would intermingle and team-up for all out battles and sometimes it would be a singular genre play time, designated to the limits of their particular cartoon realm.
Now that I am an adult I don’t play with toys. I collect them.

My interests have moved away (mostly) from my 80’s cartoon/toy interests and have refocused on “collectible statues,” not toys. I Love that! Semantics! The toys that I have becoming primarily fixated on are from a New York based company called Kidrobot. Kidrobot is an awesome company with an awesome concept. Essentially they make a blank vinyl shape and lets artists from around the world put the design onto them. Paul Budnitz one of the creators of the company related it to painting on a canvas, except that this canvas is textured and contoured. I love it!

I love it in the same way I love graffiti, the modernization of art. Last year I went to the Museum of Modern Art in NY and was delighted to find a couple of these little Kidrobot toys on display. Cool huh?

Checkout their website kidrobot.com, it has some great stuff, not just to shop but simply to view.

I could honestly write about these pretty obsessions of mine all day long but will stop here and instead will show some pictures I took of my toys around my apartment.

Enjoy!!!
