The Presets at Danforth Music Hall in Toronto

It’s been over three years since The Presets have played a show in Toronto. On Tuesday night they were at the Danforth Music Hall to support their most recent album Pacifica.

The Aussie duo of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes have truly perfected the live electronic music experience. Their combination of Hamilton’s superb keyboards, mixing and vocals and hypnotic drum beats from Moyes makes for a formidable sweaty dance party.

The show brought together a mix of their new album and past favourites. It was clear that Hamilton’s favourite track from Pacifica is “Ghosts”. With a slight Yeasayer feel, “Ghosts” is by far one of the best tracks from Pacifica. However, most of the fans were there for The Presets banging tracks from 2007’s Apocalypso. From “A New Sky” to “This Boy’s in Love”, these tracks have lost no love with the crowd or Hamilton and Moyes. I had forgotten how The Presets have a tendency to cause an uninhibited dance party. Thank you. Please come back soon.

About The Author

At Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit there is a plaque that says, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution.” The quote is from Emma Goldman, an anarchist, feminist and free-thinker of the early 20th century. This quote sums a lot about how I feel about life. To me music and dancing are two of the best forms of stress relief and self-expression. My music tastes go from eclectic to electric, but my love is deep house with a side of disco and bass.
