I LOVE handmade shoes. The delicate and intricate work that goes into crafting a perfect pair of shoes I find to be a very beautiful thing, so it is with great joy that Converse has announced the sak for Converse Star Tech shoe. This is the third collaboration with sak, and it looks to be the best so far.
Hiruma was born in Japan, but has been living in Florence, Italy for nearly a decade pursuing age-old Italian craftsmanship of shoe-making. Creating some of the most coveted versions of Converse’s most recognizable styles, Hiruma has replicated the silhouette of the Chuck Taylor All Star, Jack Purcell, One Star and now the Star Tech shoe.
The Star tech shoe is a basketball shoe from decades ago. Each individual shoe is crafted by hand and features beautiful, supple leathers, all hand-stitched from upper and rand to insole. The sak for Converse Star Tech shoe comes in natural shades of tan and black leather with hand cut logos and detailing for the shoes uppers. The exquisite attention to detail includes elegant hand-stitched leather rands and toe bumpers, and hand-cut star cut outs at the ends of each shoe’s leather laces.
Only 64 pairs in each style were produced worldwide, retailing for $600 USD, and available through John Varvatos (Bowery and Soho), Aloha Rag (New York), Concepts (Boston), Blends (Costa Mesa). A release is set for November 15th, 2010.
