Review: ‘Despicable Me 2’ Soundtrack featuring Pharrell Williams

DM2

The original, Despicable Me, is one of my favourite movies EVER. The family-friendly flick had an impressive soundtrack the first time around, and for the sequel, they have upped the ante by attaching none other than Pharrell Williams to the project.

Taking a poppier direction for the Despicable Me Soundtrack 2, William’s contributed to the main song for the movie, “Happy.” Williams has already had an amazing 2013, scoring a handful of number ones for his work with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke – not to mention being involved in Jay-Z’s much anticipated “Magna Carta Holy Grail” album. Bringing his absurd amount of talent to the DM2 soundtrack, Williams was on hand to co-produce the entire soundtrack, which includes performances by Cee-Lo Green, Heitor Pereira, and my personal loves, The Minions from the movie.

N.E.R.D. front man, Pharrell, is the latest of several big name musicians who have committed their services to an animated film soundtrack. Beyonce contributed ‘Rise Up’ for Epic 3D and Britney Spears’ new song ‘Ooh La La’ for The Smurfs 2 was recently released. The Despicable Me album is available to stream online now on Soundcloud, as well as for purchase on iTunes. The film itself just dropped yesterday!
