In a bittersweet and eerie coincidence, Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne dedicated their Fall/Winter 2016 collection to the David Bowie film, The Man Who Fell to Earth. This was before his untimely death just last month, of course.

The film, directed in 1976 by Nicolas Roeg, is a sci-fi cult classic about an alien (Bowie) who crashes on earth in search of water to save his dying planet. It was Bowie’s first starring role in a movie.

The surreal imagery and extraterrestrial vibe from the film could be felt on the runway today at Milk Studios in Chelsea. Planetary-toned jumpsuits, sporty suits and overcoats fell in line with Public School’s usual edgy (while still classic) collections. There was even one model that was a Bowie doppelganger.
