Live Music: Hot Chip at Webster Hall, NYC

No matter how many times we see Hot Chip, they always manage to excite us. We caught their first of two sold out shows at Webster Hall this week. It was a balmy night which made for an incredibly sweaty dance party. If nothing else, Hot Chip know how to put on a show. From the gorgeous lighting to Alexis Taylor’s costume change into slippery silver shorts, the London band can fill any space they occupy with their sound. It’s always awesome to see Taylor stand at the very lip of the stage while Hot Chip fans absolutely lose it. Always good for a surprise, they covered LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” with a little help from Nancy Whang and Sinkane. Not too shabby, for a Tuesday night. During their sold out Wednesday show, they actually brought out David Byrne. We spotted James Murphy in the audience as well.

Georgia Barnes, who we’ve been raving about for months opened up for Hot Chip. We had high expectations for Barnes and she certainly didn’t disappoint. Singer, songwriter, producer, and drummer, she exercises as much control over her live set as she did with her debut album.
