Live Music: Chateau Marmont at Canadian Music Festival 2011

Parisian electronic gems Chateau Marmont gallantly arrived just before their scheduled set time at The Drake Underground last Thursday evening, after word of their bus breaking down en route to play the Galapagos and YYZ showcase during 2011’s festival portion of Canadian Music Week.

After about thirty minutes of set up and line checking, they managed to overcome the venues monitor technical issues and play right through their four track Solar Apex EP from back in 2008. The modest size crowd seemed to be waiting around to watch local favourite Austra, but still politely gathered for most of the set, nodding along to recognizable tracks like “Beagle” & “Diane” from Kitsuné Maison compilation 7.

In an effort to avoid seeing only the over supported Canadian acts during this years festival, we were delighted to catch Chateau Marmont, and were pleasantly surprised at how high energy their set was despite logistical circumstances. The shameful modest crowd made it crystal clear that CMW is and always has been a festival for Canadian bands.

If you haven’t already checked out Chateau Marmont, be sure to watch their latest video for “One Hundred Realities” below and listen to their remixes of every band from Ladyhawke to Midnight Juggernaughts. These guys know how to make one hell of an electro tune.
