This past summer we fell in love with Hoops when we caught their post-Pitchfork Festival set in Chicago and snapped a Polaroid of the adorable act. The Indiana jangle boys are set to release their debut album this spring on Fat Possum, titled Routines. They’ve already shared the forthcoming album’s first single Rules and now they’ve shared the record’s second single “On Top” with a video to match. Directed by Jake Huber, the video features the boys playing a lo-fi cable access show while someone watches the same performance on a VHS tape. Electric errors and mind-melting ensue due to their inspirational message and groovy vibe.

As co-vocalist/bassist Kevin Krauter told gorilla vs. bear

I wrote this song about two years ago, and just felt like writing a cheesy feel-good positive song. When Jake proposed his idea for the setting and look of the video, we kind of all just built on that feeling. We worked with the overly positive feel of the song and sort of just took it to the extreme. It was really fun.

Watch the Hoops video for “On Top” above.

The debut Hoops record Routines comes out May 5th on Fat Possum, pre-order it here. You can also catch them on tour at the dates below.
