Deadly Ponies Okapi Rider Spring Summer 2011/2012

This time around New Zealand’s finest accessory designers Deadly Ponies pull inspiration from American surrealist artist Walton Ford’s naturalist illustrations as well as a particular African rainforest animal called the Okapi, for the spring summer 2011/12  season aptly titled Okapi Rider.

The colour palette is luscious yet classic with vibrant red lava, peacock, smoke, camel, olive, and zebra print constructed in downtown Auckland using calf skin, deer skin, cow skin, thar fur, goat fur, and wool. The collection ranges in size from tiny coin purses, wallets, satchels, cross overs, totes, hobos, folios and shoulder bags designed referencing Walton Ford’s complex narratives of colonialism, politics, natural science, and humanity’s effect on the environment.
