Cocktail Hour: Melon Stand

Cocktail Hour Melon Stand-3

There are few fruits that scream summer more than melon. From watermelon to cantaloupe to honeydew, there’s just something so delicious about that watery sweetness. What better way to showcase this incredible fruit than in a gin based cocktail (or even in a schrub to preserve that summer season all year long). So today in our cocktail hour series, we’re sharing the recipe for a Melon Stand which can be made with pretty much any melon juice.

Sometimes it’s easier to find a local cantaloupe than a local watermelon in the summer months, and since we usually opt for seasonally grown fruits whenever possible, we’ve used cantaloupe here. You’ll need to make sure your cantaloupe is nice and ripe if you’re juicing it yourself, but be careful not to let it over ripen as you’ll loose out on the much need sweetness of the fruit in the drink.

Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

2 oz Plymouth Gin
½ oz Aperol
1 oz Melon Juice
¾ oz Lemon Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup

METHOD

Combine Gin, Aperol, cantelope juice, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup in the base of a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and shake with vigour until well-chilled (it should be uncomfortably cold on your hands if you’ve done it correctly). Double strain into a coupe and garnish with a thin slice of cantaloupe or a couple perfect balls arranged on a cocktail pick.
