Portland’s YACHT put on one of the best sets at Coachella this year by far. After seeing them some two years ago in Toronto at Wrongbar we were excited to check out their new tracks live including the heavy hitting “Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)” off their much-anticipated upcoming album Shangri-La.
Always monochromatic, vocalists Claire Evans and Jona Bechtolt swapped black and white yet again, playing with a newish touring band, each sporting the bands triangular lapel pin. Evans was particularly engaging throughout the set, as most artists are when performing new material, introducing every few songs with a crowd sourced question or anecdote. Part way through the 50 minute set she said that the show would be remise if they didn’t ask if anyone believed in aliens before playing the brand new track “Beam Me Up”.
They played a good mix of tracks from the new album as well as 2009’s ever popular See Mystery Lights and got the drenched crowd moving like nothing else! Check out all the photos we snapped while busting a move below as well as a sweet video-interview with the band before their set.
